Case Study - One Housing Graduate Trainee Programmes
A programme of handpicked courses aimed at college-leavers and designed to complement induction and on-the-job training. Read more...
Aim
Some customers require specific programmes aimed at graduate recruits and other trainees – programmes that provide a comprehensive induction aligned to on-the-job development and actual casework.
Delivery
Central Training designed a mixed package of twelve one and two-day courses delivered over a nine-month period for such a customer. The programme was designed to give the trainees a thorough understanding of the sector, introduce them to the organisation's key stakeholders, and to develop their core competencies and knowledge of working practices.
In addition to the core learning offered through the programme, trainees were also given two service-specific elective courses to choose from Central Training's open course programme.
Outcomes
The commissioner of the programme stated that the programme has been a huge success, with high levels of staff retention and the effective, early sourcing of future managers. The residual benefits extend beyond the programme as this organisation's group induction is now shaped by the programme's matching of skills and competencies to roles.
The programme has also provided an excellent opportunity to bring invaluable new skills into social care by targeting graduates with no prior industry experience.
