Learning and development underpins organisational performance and improvement. Needs Assessment

Creating an effective learning strategy is never more crucial than in times of constrained finance, restructuring and redundancies. Identifying training and learning needs is central to this. To put it simply, where are you now as an organisation and where do you want to be? What skills and capabilities do your staff have at all levels in the organisation and do these fit with the future you see for your business? What works well currently and how this can be built on?

Programme Design

Based on your assessment of need, what do you put in place to respond to these needs. This can be a range of activities including taught courses, self directed learning, coaching and mentoring which can be delivered in a variety of ways.

Delivery

The plans identified are put in place within an agreed budget and a set timescale. This may involve using external providers or developing tailor made approaches in house. It needs to be responsive and flexible to meet the needs identified.

Evaluation

This measures the effectiveness of the above stages. It can take place after learning but also needs to be considered in terms of the difference it makes to the individual learner in the workplace. In simple terms did the learning activities meet the identified need in the right way at the right time and how can we assess the difference the learning has made?
